Facebook cites political advertising ban after refusing ads for a historical novel about Abraham Lincoln: The marketing team at Republic Book Publishers requested to purchase ads on Facebook for one of its novels titled "Old Abe" over the holidays to boost sales. Facebook rejected the book publishers request to run ads for the historical novel about Abraham Lincoln because it didn't comply with the platform's advertising policies. Republic appealed the decision but again Facebook told them that their ads about a book chronicling the last few years of Lincoln’s life, following him through his presidency and the Civil War, violated its ban on advertisements about social issues, elections, or politics. "The ads we submitted contain three quotes by former Vice President Mike Pence ('Best Lincoln book I’ve ever read'), former Secretary of Education Bill Bennett ('This book makes you love Lincoln') and The Civil War Monitor magazine ('Will appeal to generations of readers')," wrote the author of "Old Abe" John Cribb. "Maybe someone saw the name Pence or Bennett and hit the reject button." With their appeals exhausted Republic eventually threw in the towel and Facebook succeeded in censoring Lincoln.
