Lone Star Outdoor Show
Case #
3323

Instagram disables outdoor account after failing to follow its own guidelines: Lone Star Outdoor Show had its Instagram account shut down, and the reason that Instagram used did not follow its own written guidelines. It seems that the hunting-focused account had multiple violations over time that ultimately led to the account being shut down, but the violations inappropriately used guidelines that have clear exceptions for hunting. In this case, the user posted a screenshot of a Facebook censorship notice on Instagram. The Facebook post contained two images of an albino rattlesnake, and said "Albino...yeah I'm still stomping it and making a hat band." The text of the Instagram post, which showed that Facebook claimed that the post violated its "standards on coordinating harm and promoting crime," read "Facebook jail for 'coordinating harm' & 'promoting crime' because I said I'd kill a rattle snake and it would make a great hat band. Whoever reports this kind of stuff is the worst kind of soy latte sipping vegan paraquat on the face of God's Green Earth. And Facebook...Crime? Wtf are they talking about?" According to a screenshot shared with CensorTrack, Instagram claimed this post violated its "guidelines on coordinating harm." Other guidelines make a clear exception for hunting-related posts, and it is unclear how Instagram felt the post was "coordinating harm."
