Christopher McDonald
Case #
1857

YouTube removes two episodes of "The McFiles," a digital talk show with Christopher McDonald, and suspends it from uploading new episodes for a week: Christopher McDonald hosts a digital talk show across numerous social platforms called "The McFiles," which discusses politics and other current events in American politics. The show includes episodes that involve a faith based perspective, and episodes free of any discussions about religion. YouTube flagged two recent episodes of "The McFiles" that violated its community guidelines, which led to the channel's week long suspension. The first episode purportedly violated YouTube's community guidelines that prohibit "Content that advances false claims that widespread fraud, errors, or glitches changed the outcome of the U.S. 2020 presidential election," according to the notice sent to McDonald alerting him of the violation. The second episode purportedly violated YouTube's community guidelines for breaking the platform's rules around spreading medical misinformation about COVID-19. "We just simply said it was Kung Flu, which I don't think that's false information," McDonald said in a live stream where he told his audience about the problems he's facing with YouTube. "But folks, I'm just going to be honest with you, we cannot control this." McDonald has been diligent about making his show available across numerous platforms, so that when incidents such as this occur he can still broadcast to his audience; albeit with hurdles he must get over and hoops he must jump through.
