Facebook censors Seymour Hersh article posted by Michael Shellenberger: Pulitzer-Prize-winning journalist Seymour Hersh published a Substack article covering America’s role in destroying the Nord Stream Pipelines. Facebook placed fact-check labels on posts linking to the article, including one posted by author and policy expert Michael Shellenberger. According to screenshots that Shellenberger tweeted, the initial fact-check label said, “False information. Checked by independent fact-checkers.” The more recent label says, “Partly false information. Checked by independent fact-checkers.” At the time of publishing, the “partly false” label is the one that appears under Shellenberger’s Facebook post with the article. Clicking “See why” in the label shows the message, “Partly false information. Independent fact-checkers say this information has some factual inaccuracies. You can choose whether to see it. See fact-check.” The link included in the message is to a Norwegian news article. Since the article is entirely in Norwegian, anyone not fluent in that language is forced to rely on a translator app or extension to read the article. However, translation tools are notoriously unreliable. This makes it challenging to understand the article and see what relevant facts or context are allegedly inaccurate.
