Union County School Board
Case #
2203

YouTube removes video of school board meeting which depicted vocal parents concerned about long term child mask-wearing: YouTube removed a video of North Carolina's Union County school board meeting. WFAE 90.7 reported that in the first 30 minutes of the video, several parents voiced concerns about child mask-wearing and cited studies that refute the effectiveness of masks. The school board used its YouTube channel to archive its meetings and make them available to the public. YouTube flagged the video as a violation of its community standards on "medical misinformation" because the platform does not allow information "that contradicts the World Health Organization or local health authorities medical information about Covid-19." Tahira Stalberte, a spokesperson for the school district, claimed that they had submitted an appeal but that it was rejected by YouTube. One week later, the platform reversed its decision and restored the video.
