X community adds a context note to user's post: An X (formerly Twitter) user posted "how it started, how it's going: it's called a 'slave iron bit.'" The post included a drawing of a black man in a neck collar and a mouth cover, seemingly from the 1800s or earlier, and a photo of a black prisoner who jumped on the judge during his sentencing and was fitted with a full face mask/spit guard when he returned to court. The X community added a note to the post that read: "Readers added context they thought people might want to know. The image on the left shows a slave with an iron muzzle, used when they were accused of insubordination, or for eating too much: pbs.org/wgbh/aia/part1… The image on the right is showing a prisoner with a full face mask acting as a spit guard. He attacked a judge on Jan. 3, and was back in court: reviewjournal.com/crime/courts/s…" The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted that notices will be pushed to users who previously engaged with a post when a Community Note is added to it later.
