X community adds a context note to a re-post of a Donald Trump Truth Social post: An X (formerly Twitter) account called "Donald J. Trump Posts From His Truth Social posted "Germany and other European Countries have Massive Budget Surpluses, as we spend Billions to defend them! Donald Trump Truth Social 02:26 PM EST 04/19/24." The X community added a note to the post that read: "Readers added context they thought people might want to know. Germany has not had a budget surplus since 2019, and has presented budget deficits since then. The EU as a whole and most of its constituent countries have also presented budget deficits in the last few years. ec.europa.eu/eurostat/docum…" The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted that notices will be pushed to users who previously engaged with a post when a Community Note is added to it later.
