Instagram fact-checks Simon Holland’s post joking about weight-loss resolutions: Public figure and social media dad Simon Holland posted a screenshot on Instagram of one of his tweets. In the post, Holland joked, “Shoutout to everyone who said they would start eating healthy in the new year and already decided to wait until Monday.” One year later, Instagram obscured the post and put a fact-check label marking the information as false. Instagram said, “The same false information was reviewed in another post by fact-checkers.” According to screenshots from a video describing the incident, Instagram claimed that the reason for the fact-check was that “Mexico has at least 41 cases of coronavirus as of March 15.” The screenshots also noted that posts reviewed by independent fact-checkers cannot be appealed, and that Instagram may suppress the content or restrict the accounts of users who frequently post “false information.”
