X’s Community Notes claims missing context: The Pharmaceutical Researchers and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) posted a White House post that contained an infographic that read "The Biden-Harris Administration Announces First Set of Drugs Selected for Medicare Price Negotiation" and listed the ten drugs. The White House post added, "Today, the Biden-Harris Administration is announcing the first 10 drugs selected for Medicare price negotiation. Seniors paid $3.4 billion in out-of-pocket costs for these 10 drugs in 2022. President Biden's inflation Reduction Act is working to bring down those costs." PhRMA added its own commentary about this, saying "What @WhiteHouse isn't telling you: They're giving a single government agency power to arbitrarily set medicine prices with little accountability, oversight or input from patients & their doctors—with consequences long after this administration is gone. https://onphr.ma/3qIK0Jj." X’s Community Notes added a context graph to the post that currently reads, “The Inflation Reduction Act does not give the power to set medication prices. Instead, it permits the government to *negotiate* over prices for selected drugs. These negotiations are also specific to Medicare coverage only. thehill.com/policy/healthc…” The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts.
