Facebook censors factual post about California power grid flex alert: A Twitter user shared a screenshot of his Facebook censorship notice. The user had posted a side-by-side headline showing an NPR headline: "California is poised to phase out sales of new gas-powered cars," following by a headline from an unknown outlet reading "BREAKING: California Power Grid Declares Flex Alert, Urges Residents To Not Charge Electric Vehicles." The user shared on Twitter the alert notice that stated that because of "extreme heat," customers "should also avoid charging electric vehicles while the Flex Alert is in effect," which was between "4 to 9 p.m." on August 31 and September 1, 2022. Despite this, Facebook alerted the user that "Independent fact-checkers reviewed a similar photo and said it was false," and that it had "added a notice to your post. The post includes information that independent fact-checkers said was false." The notice stated that Facebook had added a notice to the post that included a link to a PolitFact fact-check article headlined: "Can Californians Charge Electric Cars During Summer Heat?" The notice finally stated that "People who repeatedly share false information might have their posts moved lower in News Feed so other people are less likely to see them."
