X community adds a context note to NBC News post: NBC News posted "Google searches for phrases including 'Am I gay' and 'Am I lesbian' have increased by 1,300% since 2004, according to a new analysis." The post included a link to an NBC News article about this topic with a date of May 24, 2023. The X community added a note to the post that read: "Readers added context they thought people might want to know. NBC News has posted this exact same post on their X account every month since May, 2023, thereby invalidating the claim “according to a new analysis”. A simple search of their X account verifies these multiple posts. x.com/nbcnews?s=21&t…" The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted that notices will be pushed to users who previously engaged with a post when a Community Note is added to it later.
