X community adds context note to WashPost writer's post: Washington Post writer Meryl Kornfield's X account posted a reply to a previous post which read, "I asked Vivek if he condemned white supremacy. Vivek said to 'stop picking on this farce of some figment that exists at some infinitesimally small fringe.' He said he condemns 'vicious racial discrimination' but would not 'bend the knee' and condemn white supremacy." The previous post, also by Kornfield, read, "At a Vivek Ramaswamy town hall, a video just played of former Rep. Steve King endorsing him. King became a party pariah and lost his seat after questioning why white supremacy is offensive in an interview. The endorsement was first reported by @adamwren" and linked to a Politico article. X added a label to the post that read "Readers added context they thought people might want to know." The added context read, "Vivek condemned all forms of racism. This post is very misleading. nypost.com/2024/01/03/new…." The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk recently shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted to explain that notices will now be pushed to users that previously engaged with a post about any Community Notes added to it after the engagement.
