Liz Wheeler

FB post from political commentator Liz Wheeler fact-checked by Lead Stories: Former One America News Network anchor Liz Wheeler posted a video explaining legislation proposed in New York that would permit officials to send "cases, contacts and carriers" to detention facilities. Wheeler's discussion of this major violation of civil liberties was marked as "Partly False Information" by Lead Stories because the bill purportedly has not begun the process to be formally passed. "The New York State Assembly's Health Committee, where presumably the bill would first be discussed, will not meet on January 6, 2021," cited Lead Stories explanation for why Wheeler's video was partly false. "In fact, according to the office of Assemblyman Dick Gottfried, Health Committee members and the committee chair have not even been appointed yet, committee meetings have not been scheduled, the first meeting will probably not happen for a few weeks and there is no plan to put this bill on the agenda." Lead Stories also cited the bill's lack of a co-sponsor as further reasoning why Wheeler's discussion about the bill was untrue. In a video response to the fact-check Wheeler said that she received notification from Facebook shortly after her post was flagged indicating she would now be facing reduced distribution and other restrictions on the platform.
