Facebook censors user for meme about corporate mascots: A Twitter user shared screenshots of her Facebook censorship notice. She posted a meme showing 4 images: first, with the former Land O' Lakes Native American woman mascot, the white male Quaker Oats mascot, Aunt Jemima, and Uncle Ben. The second photo shows only the Quaker oats mascot, Aunt Jemima, and Uncle Ben after Land O' Lakes removed its mascot. The third image portrays only the Quaker oats mascot and Aunt Jemima after Uncle Ben was also cancelled. The final image shows only the white male Quaker oats mascot, after Aunt Jemima was also removed. The user's posted noted that "White supremacy wins again." According to the screenshot, Facebook claimed this meme post violated its rules against "dangerous individuals and organizations." The user also shared screenshots of her appeal, in which she claimed that it was ridiculous for Facebook to claim that a Quaker, which is a famously peaceful religious organization, is a violent or dangerous terrorist. The user's initial appeals were all rejected so she is appealing to the Oversight Board. Her post was deleted and her account suspended for a day.
