X community adds a context note to James J. Zogby's post: Founder of the Arab American Institute James J. Zogby posted "No one should be threatened/insulted/harmed cuz of the food they prepare or eat. But, falafel & humus are Palestinian not Israeli. Tabouli & kibbee are Lebanese not Israeli. Look: if I open a restaurant & serve spaghetti, that doesn’t make it Lebanese 1/2." The post included a link to an article titled "In a new war over Middle Eastern food, eating hummus and shawarma has become a political act." The X community added a note to the post that read: "Readers added context they thought people might want to know. Falafel is thought to have originated in Egypt books.google.co.uk/books?id=-LOlC… Most recent studies into Houmous says Houmous came from Syria newlinesmag.com/newsletter/the…. Regardless, Israel is made up of many returning from diaspora who brought their dishes back from the countries that ejected them." The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk recently shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted that notices will now be pushed to users who previously engaged with a post when a Community Note is added to it later.
