Facebook fact-checks Heritage Action for America's graphic on national voting legislation calling it 'partly false': Heritage Action for America, an affiliate of The Heritage Foundation, posted a graphic on Facebook pointing out problems with H.R. 1/S. 1 (For the People Act), which the organization has dubbed "The Corrupt Politicians Act," and S. 2747 (Freedom to Vote Act), which Heritage calls "The Freedom to Cheat Act." The graphic lists 10 alarming provisions found in each piece of legislation. According to the graphic, the legislation: "Undermines Voter ID laws," "Publicly funds political campaigns," "Creates unaccountable redistricting committees," "Requires political nonprofits to disclose donors," and "Automatically registers intelligible voters," to name a few. Facebook placed a fact-check interstitial over the post because PolitiFact deemed one of the 10 claims "partly false." The fact-checker argued that, according to the Freedom to Vote Act, voters are not automatically registered to vote because voters can decline to have their information transferred from their local Department of Motor Vehicles to state election officials. PolitiFact cited the proposed legislation when it claimed that non-citizens are not allowed to be given the option of having their information transferred for automatic voter registration. However, PolitiFact completely ignored the fact that the Freedom to Vote Act does not allow states to deny 16 and 17-year-old ineligible voters the same transfer option even though they cannot yet vote in any elections.
