Facebook censors Dr. Robert Malone quote meme with help of Lead Stories: A meme that has a picture of Dr. Robert Malone, labeling him as "Inventor of mRNA technology," and a quote from him that read "First time in history that the ineffectiveness of a medicine is being blamed on those who haven't taken it" began circulating on Facebook. The quote is clearly a reference to the COVID-19 vaccines, which Malone has been speaking out about. Facebook began applying a fact-check label to the meme, calling it "Missing context," and linking to a Lead Stories fact-check article having nothing to do with Malone's quote. The fact-check article is titled: "A Vaccinated Person Is NOT Wrong To Think An Unvaccinated Person Is A Threat To Their Health." Questions regarding the accuracy of the fact-check article aside, Malone's quote said nothing about whether unvaccinated people are a threat to vaccinated people or not, it simply remarked on the fact that those in power have been blaming the continued spread of COVID-19 on unvaccinated people, despite the majority of the people being vaccinated, which should have, in theory, slowed or stopped the spread. Thus, the vaccines effectiveness in stopping transmission was being questioned, and in fact, most everyone has come to agreement that the vaccines do not stop transmission. In fact, the fact-check article notes that "no vaccine is 100% effective," making Malone's point that the ineffectiveness of the vaccines is not the fault of the unvaccinated, but rather a reality of vaccines. The fact-check article was addressing a different meme that claimed "If you think an unvaccinated person is a threat to a vaccinated person then you don't believe in vaccines." This is in no way relevant to Dr. Malone's quote. The fact-check label noted that "The same information was checked in another post by fact-checkers. There may be small differences." However, it is clear that there are in fact large differences, and this fact-check is irrelevant to this meme. According to Facebook, users fail to click through fact-check interstitials 95% of the time.
