Mail-in voting has become controversial this election — except at Facebook. The social media site loves mail-in voting so much, it’s promoting it on every politician’s post about … mail-in voting. So when President Donald Trump warns how mail-in ballots could be manipulated to fix the election, Facebook turns around and encourages voters to vote that way.

Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced new measures to combat misinformation about voting, the July 16 TechCrunch article explained. Zuckerberg also hinted that Facebook will “begin labeling some ‘newsworthy’ posts from political figures, leaving the content online but adding a label noting that it violates the platform’s rules.”

Facebook will launch its Voter Information Center for company-approved information regarding the 2020 election. “The voter info center, like the coronavirus info center Facebook launched in March, will be placed prominently in order to funnel users toward useful resources,” TechCrunch summarized:

“Starting today, Facebook posts by federal elected officials and candidates — including presidential candidates — will be accompanied by an info label prompting anyone who sees the post to click through for official information on how to vote. The label will link out to usa.gov/voting. For posts that address vote-by-mail specifically, the link will point to a section of the same website with state-by-state instructions about how to register to vote through the mail.”

Facebook, like other Big Tech companies, has set up organizations like the World Health Organization to be the gold standard of truth about the COVID-19 virus and its prevention. This choice has proven to be extremely problematic since the pandemic began. As late as January 14, WHO claimed in a tweet:

“Preliminary investigations conducted by the Chinese authorities have found no clear evidence of human-to-human transmission of the novel #coronavirus (2019-nCoV) identified in #Wuhan, #China.”

The left has been in uproar over Trump’s concerns about  mail-in voting. Many were aghast at the idea that not showing up in person to polls can lead to voter fraud. This was highlighted when he was fact-checked by Twitter, even though The New York Times has previously mentioned the exact same concern years before. 

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) itself slammed Facebook in a memo for “unkept promises” covered by The Washington Post in early July. The DNC claimed in the memo that Facebook had “uniformly allowed President Trump to lie about methods of voting in the 2020 election, even though the lies violate the clear text of the policy.” 

TechCrunch leaned into editorializing by similarly claiming President Trump’s speculation that mail-in voting could lead to significant fraud in the election were “false,” and observed that Zuckerberg has not addressed them directly. 

Facebook has been bowing to multiple assaults from liberals over the past few weeks. This includes a boycott of over 1,000 companies against advertising on Facebook for not being leftist enough. As a result, Facebook has considered throwing up its hands in surrender and banning all election ads.  “Facebook Inc. is considering imposing a ban on political ads on its social network in the days leading up to the U.S. election in November, according to people familiar with the company’s thinking” Bloomberg reported on July 10.
