Popular podcaster Joe Rogan bashed legacy media and praised independent journalists in a recent show. The Twitter Files is one of the biggest exclusive series in America now, broken by independent journalists.

Independent Substack journalist The Vigilant Fox shared a clip of Joe Rogan on his verified Twitter account March 21. In the clip, Joe Rogan praised independent journalists and slammed “mainstream media” as beholden to advertising revenue and the companies that provide the revenue.

Rogan’s comments come as The Twitter Files are ongoing. Independent journalists including Matt Taibbi and Michael Shellenberger have published The Twitter Files at the request of Twitter CEO Elon Musk.

Rogan highlighted the rising importance of independent journalists in an age of media bias and online censorship. “If it was not for independent journalism, we would be in a pickle,” Rogan insisted. “We would be in a really bad state.” He said many people were duped by the pharmaceutical and medical industries. The Twitter Files uncovered government-tech collusion to censor COVID-19 debate. MRC Free Speech America also found over 800 cases of COVID-19 censorship logged in its unique CensorTrack.org database between March 2020 and February 2022.

Rogan also mentioned the military industrial complex. “They’ve been duped by so many different companies and corporations that have a vested interest in getting one narrative out,” he said. “And if you can get that narrative out through the traditional pipelines of mainstream media with no one fact-checking, no one interfering, no independent journalists saying ‘actually, that’s not true at all,’” that’s how money shapes media.

“If it wasn’t for [independent journalists], we would be f**ked,” Rogan put it crudely. “And it’s one of the beautiful things about the internet today. The internet today allows people like that to thrive, because these mainstream media corporations are so corrupt, they’re so obviously indebted to the companies that pay for their advertising.”

The Twitter Files sparked congressional hearings and a national debate about government-tech censorship and free speech. They uncovered shocking evidence such as how the FBI worked with Twitter to censor Americans and, most recently, “The Great Covid-19 Lie machine.”
