Twitter suspends writer and historian Varad Mehta, later backtracks: Writer and historian Varad Mehta was temporarily suspended for violating Twitter's rules against platform manipulation and spam, according to a purported screenshot. Upon returning to the platform, Mehta shared a screenshot indicating he was suspended by the platform. He commented, "I just want you all to know - and I'm only going to repeat this once - report me all you want, I am never going to stop retweeting cat photos." He said he does not know what prompted the suspension. "Clear as mud," he tweeted. "I suspect I got mass reported. But your guess is as good as mine as to what really happened." Later the same day, Mehta said he received an email from Twitter explaining that his account was restored. In the email, Twitter apologized, claiming his account was "flagged as spam by mistake," according to the purported screenshot. Twitter did not reply to MRC Free Speech America’s request for comment at the time of publication.
