J Hogan Gidley
Case #
1088

Twitter censors Trump campaign's National Press Secretary for posting photo of vote-by-mail ballot he received for person who lived in his apartment eight years ago: The Trump campaign's National Press Secretary, Hogan Gidley, took to Twitter to complain about an actual case of a problem with the vote-by-mail system. He tweeted a photo of a ballot he received at his address, with the name of the tenant who had lived there prior to him, some eight years ago. Along with the photo, Gidley editorialized thusly: "Got 'my' ...uh wait...no...'Daniel's' ballot in the mail?!? Who is that? Apparently, it's a former tenant who hasn't lived in the unit for 8 YEARS!!! But yeah, sure...the mainstream media is correct...unsolicited vote-by-mail is 'totally safe.'" Twitter deemed this example of an actual instance of a problem with this vote-by-mail system as "posting misleading information about voting," and restricted Gidley's account. Gidley said that this action was "irrational and inexplicable," but agreed to delete the tweet so that he could regain full access to his account, given that the election was a mere two weeks away and his Twitter account is fairly important at this stage.
