X community adds a context note to Tristan Snell post: Lawyer and MSNBC commentator Tristan Snell posted, "I don't know who needs to hear this, but the First Amendment does NOT protect defamation. In fact, the First Amendment does not protect ANY speech among private parties. Ever. At all." The X community added a note to the post that read: "Readers added context they thought people might want to know. The First Amendment protects speech among private parties from being the subject of civil or criminal liability unless a recognized exception applies, and liability for defamation is subject to constitutional limits. supreme.justia.com/cases/federal/…" The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk recently shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted that notices will now be pushed to users who previously engaged with a post when a Community Note is added to it later.
