X community adds a context note to Jesse Kelly post: Conservative commentator Jesse Kelly posted "People love to sound sophisticated and brag about European art and architecture. I’ve seen America’s and I’ve seen what they’ve got. Theirs can’t touch ours." The post included a photo of the Statue of Liberty. The X community added a note to the post that read: "Readers added context they thought people might want to know. The copper statue, a gift from the people of France, was designed by French sculptor Bartholdi, its metal framework was built by Eiffel. The statue was dedicated in October 1886. The idea came from abolitionist de Laboulaye, to commemorate the centennial of U.S. independence. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statue_of…" The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted that notices will be pushed to users who previously engaged with a post when a Community Note is added to it later. Kelly later posted indicating that his original post was "a (fairly obvious) joke" that he posted to troll communists.
