X community adds a context note to a user's post: An X (formerly Twitter) user posted "It's over, where do we go now?" The post included a screenshot purporting to be a message from Google saying that "Google is sunsetting Gmail." The message continued, saying "As of August 1, 2024, Gmail will officially be sunsetted, marking the end of its service." The X community added a note to the post that read: "Readers added context they thought people might want to know. Contrary to rumors, Google is NOT shutting down Gmail. The reported closure pertains to the retirement of the classic version, as detailed here: techradar.com/pro/a-classic-… Please rely on accurate sources." The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted that notices will be pushed to users who previously engaged with a post when a Community Note is added to it later.
