X community adds a context note to journalist's post: ITV News Royal Editor Chris Ship posted "BREAKING NEWS: King Charles III has cancer. Buckingham Palace just released a statement. King will step back from duties as Monarch and Head of State while he undergoes treatment. It is NOT prostate cancer (but it was found during his prostate operation)." The X community added a note to the post that read: "Readers added context they thought people might want to know. The King is not stepping back from his duties as Monarch and Head of State. Buckingham Palace stated that 'His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.' He will only 'postpone public-facing duties'. twitter.com/royalfamily/st…" The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted that notices will be pushed to users who previously engaged with a post when a Community Note is added to it later.
