Facebook censors Billy Hallowell: Christian journalist and columnist at the Washington Times Billy Hallowell posted, “Jesus died so you could live.” However, according to screenshots that Hallowell tweeted, Facebook censored his post, claiming, “Your post goes against our Community Standards on hate speech.” Facebook also warned Hallowell that his “account may be restricted or disabled.” Facebook’s Community Standards are meant to “create a place for expression and give people a voice,” while also keeping the platform “a safe place.” Specifically, Facebook’s policy on hate speech prohibits “violent or dehumanizing speech,” “harmful stereotypes,” and “calls for exclusion or segregation.” Hallowell’s post contained no such derogatory or scurrilous content. Hallowell appealed the decision, but tweeted later that Facebook had “doubled down.” Facebook did not appear to provide any further explanation.
