Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) is ready to crack the whip on Big Tech censorship and restore free speech.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) called Big Tech censorship “the single greatest threat” to free speech in America during a Fox Business interview on Thursday. He said he was committed to bringing “real accountability” to the leftist Silicon Valley giants that baselessly censored opinions and viewpoints they disagreed with.

Cruz tore into the censorship that has been plaguing digital town squares for years:

“I have long believed that the single greatest threat to free speech in America is Big Tech censorship…I think we need to return to an environment that allows free speech–that allows everyone to speak. If you disagree with someone, great. Stand up and say why you think they’re wrong. Don’t just use monopoly power to silence the views you don’t like.”

It was reportedly Elon Musk’s unleashing of the Twitter Files that served as the pretext for Cruz’ new investigation.

“The fact that Elon has gone open kimono at Twitter changed the terrain for the other Big Tech players: for Google which owns YouTube, for Facebook, for TikTok,” Cruz said. “Because there’s every reason to believe all of them are doing the exact same thing.” Cruz said “we are gonna be devoting real time, energy, and resources to examining, documenting the abuses, the censoring, the silencing to bringing sunshine and transparency and hopefully to bring real accountability to this attack on our free speech rights.”

Cruz joins Congressman Jim Jordan (R-OH) in the fight against online censorship. Earlier this month, the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability held its first Twitter Files hearing where Jordan called out Twitter’s apparent compliance with the FBI to censor the New York Post’s Hunter Biden laptop story. Jordan, who chairs the House Judiciary Committee, also just issued subpoenas to executives from Alphabet Inc., Meta, Amazon, Apple and Microsoft to hold Big Tech accountable for possible collusion with the federal government to censor speech.
