Another one bites the dust. Facebook just restricted a pro-Trump super PAC with less than three months left before the presidential election.

Facebook banned the Committee to Defend the President, a pro-Trump Super PAC, from running ads on the platform. The August 6 move was due to the committee’s alleged spread of “misinformation.”

The super PAC, which was founded in 2013, was originally called the Stop Hillary PAC. After President Donald Trump’s victory in 2016, the PAC rebranded itself under its new name and mission, to “defend [the president] against the radical left’s wild attacks.”

Per Facebook policy, the platform employs third-party fact-checkers to review posts from advocacy organizations, former candidates and government officials, and political action committees (PACs). While the policy states that political parties, politicians and other office holders “are generally not subject to fact-checking,” Facebook did recently remove a video of Trump speaking about the fact that children are less susceptible to the coronavirus.

Facebook claims that, as a page continues to share content that “has been rated as False or Partly False by a third-party fact-checker,” the platform will continue to reduce that page’s distribution and reach.

In a comment to Fox Business, The Committee to Defend the President chairman Ted Harvey claimed, “When their liberal, Trump-hating 'fact-checkers' complained about the committee's first ad for correctly calling out Joe Biden, we changed it. When those same 'fact-checkers' didn't bother to check the facts or even watch our second ad, they still banned us."

Facebook spokesperson Andy Stone said, “As a result of the Committee to Defend the President's repeated sharing of content determined by third-party fact-checkers to be false, they will not be permitted to advertise for a period of time on our platform," according to CNN.

Neither Facebook or the super PAC have specified the specific post or ad that resulted in the ban to either CNN or Fox. It is important to note Facebook’s “independent” fact-checkers are approved by the Soros-funded Poynter Institute, which raises some questions about how independent these fact-checkers actually are.
