X community adds a context note to Samuel Sinyangwe post: Self-described black activist Samuel Sinyangwe posted a response to an exchange between other X users about the idea that red light cameras are racist. His response read "In DC, researchers found that red light cams were systemically concentrated in Black communities, resulting in more tickets for Black drivers. Meanwhile there’s no evidence Black drivers speed/drive differently than anyone else. This is systemic racism. https://dcpolicycenter.org/publications/predominately-black-neighborhoods-in-d-c-bear-the-brunt-of-automated-traffic-enforcement/." The X community added a note to the post that read: "Readers added context they thought people might want to know. Red light cameras were placed by the majority black DC city council in areas that had the most speeding related incidents to make intersections safer for the minorities that lived there. dcpolicycenter.org/publications/s…" The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted that notices will be pushed to users who previously engaged with a post when a Community Note is added to it later.
