From Not Again: Twitter Locked NY Post Account for Committing Journalism, Musk Responds

by Catherine Salgado

The New York Post said it tweeted an article about Twitter deleting more than 5,000 tweets with content about a planned (now canceled) “Trans Day of Vengeance.”  Twitter went on a wild censorship binge by indiscriminately targeting accounts that promoted the “Trans Day of Vengeance” along with those that condemned the scheduled event.

The purge hit many accounts simply reporting on the “Day of Vengeance.” The Post was one of the targets (the account was later unlocked).

The Post said it was locked out of its main account with 2.8 million followers for an article headlined: “Twitter deletes thousands of tweets about planned ‘Trans Day of Vengeance’ protest.” The outlet insisted the move was incomprehensible in light of new Twitter CEO Elon Musk’s self-identified status as a “free speech absolutist.” A new MRC Free Speech America study found censorship is shockingly on the rise since Musk’s takeover.

The screenshot the Post shared of Twitter’s notice vaguely said the account was locked for “Violating one of our Rules.”

When podcaster Robby Starbuck tweeted about the Post’s latest account lock, he called the new censorship “similar to the NYPost + Hunter Biden saga.” Musk responded with the defense: “We fixed it fast.”
