Patreon suspends James Corbett for content that isn't even on its platform: James Corbett, founder and editor of The Corbett Report, has had his Patreon account indefinitely suspended for violating the platform's policies concerning medical misinformation about COVID-19. The interesting part of this situation is that Corbett never posted, or linked to, any of his content on his Patreon account. It was simply there to allow Corbett to collect subscription fees from his audience, and then send them login credentials to access content on his website. "Following our policy update concerning medical misinformation, Patreon can no longer support accounts that repeatedly use unfounded or debunked theories to argue against broadly supported public health measures on COVID-19," said a notice sent to Corbett. The notice also provided three examples of Corbett's content that ran afoul of Patreon's Covid-19 misinformation policy. However, two were YouTube videos and the third was a video on BitChute — a YouTube alternative. This content from Corbett had absolutely no relationship to Patreon, yet it has suspended him from using its services for creating it. "So they're asking you to physically, for you to remove your content from your website that has no connection to Patreon other than the fact that you use that platform independently of your website," remarked The American Vagabond's Ryan Cristián in a podcast episode discussing the situation with Corbett. Patreon has also suspended independent creator Whitney Webb in recent weeks, as well as The American Vagabond itself.
