X community adds a context note to Ian Miles Cheong post: Political commentator Ian Miles Cheong posted, "In a newly unearthed clip from October 2022, fascist Nikki Haley says she supports communist China’s plan of making everyone register their identities to use social media.   'People should have to prove who they are. Like I have a blue checkmark because I had to prove who I was. EVERYBODY SHOULD HAVE TO DO THAT … People would have to stand up for what they’re saying cause many of them hide behind these false names — NO! If you’re going to say something hateful, you need to say it and let us know who you are.'" The post included the video clip that was referenced. The X community added a note to the post that read: "Readers added context they thought people might want to know. In this clip and full video, Nikki Haley does not endorse any of China’s internet policies by name or otherwise, but rather expresses support for identity authentication to combat inauthentic and bot accounts. The full video can be found viewed at youtube.com/live/2FRfcYBw2…." The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk recently shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted that notices will now be pushed to users who previously engaged with a post when a Community Note is added to it later.
