Facebook fact-checks a meme quoting from a satire article: A user shared a meme on Facebook that consisted of part of an article from Real Raw News, which was noted in the meme. According to Real Raw News' About section, "This website contains humor, parody, and satire." Facebook's fact-checkers have never shied away from labeling satire as misinformation before, and they did not in this case, either. The meme purported to be a transcript of a phone call between Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Dr. Anthony Fauci, and President Joe Biden, among others. In the made-up transcript, Fauci and DeSantis argued over the COVID vaccines and DeSantis' failing to control the virus in his state. In the end, DeSantis told Biden that he could "go fuck yourself." Lead Stories actually checked with several sources to be certain that this conversation never took place. It then noted that it has found Real Raw News to be "a website with a history of publishing false claims," while failing to mention at all that it states on its website that it contains "humor, parody, and satire." According to Facebook, users fail to click through fact-check interstitials 95% of the time.
