Instagram fact-checks James Lindsay: Lindsay, a writer and the president of the educational website, New Discourses, posted a text graphic on Instagram. The graphic read, “Novak Djokovic becomes the first professional athlete in history to be banned from a major sporting competition for not taking drugs.” Instagram placed a warning label beneath the post. The warning said, “Partly false information. The same information was reviewed by independent fact-checkers in another post.” Clicking the link made another banner appear, which said, “The same partly false information was reviewed in another post by fact-checkers. There may be small differences. Independent fact-checkers say this information has some factual inaccuracies.” The banner included a link to a PolitiFact article that described other athletes who have been banned from events for refusing the COVID-19 vaccine. Lindsay’s post, however, seemed to be satire and not intended as a serious statement of fact.
